First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa today met striking junior doctors at State House where they agreed to call off their month long industrial action while their grievances were looked into.
Briefing journalists after a two hour meeting, the First Lady said she had agreed to take up their grievances to relevant authorities so that they could address those that could immediately implemented.
However, in a tweet commenting on reports the strike is over, the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA) has urged caution as it awaited the delegation that went to State House to consult and give feedback to their membership.
“The delegation that went to meet First Lady today is yet to give feedback to our membership. Awaiting this much anticipated feedback, lets not speculate the outcome, because concessions are made after nationwide consultations with members. We hope the negotiations are fruitful!” said the ZHDA in a statement.
The striking doctors requested to meet the First Lady and appealed to her as a mother to help break the current impasse.
She obliged by cancelling her Bulawayo engagement.
The engagement went very well with signs of putting public interest first highly evident, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services.
