THE doctors’ umbrella body, the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors’ Association, has announced the official end of their members’ strike, with no salary review, and with their December salaries frozen.

The industrial action, which lasted 40 days, ended with divisions among the association’s membership, with strike fatigue, lack of income, and political infiltration taking centre stage.

In a statement on Thursday morning, the association said: “As we return to work begrudgingly, we will be working with whatever is available.”

However, government has announced it will pay January 2019 salaries for all civil servants including teachers, nurses and doctors by next week Wednesday.

This follows consultations between government and staff associations which began this week.

Treasury has announced it has resolved to pay all civil servants much sooner than normally the case, with 16 January as the date by which all civil servants will have been paid their January 2019 salaries. — ZOOMZimbabwe
