VIDEO: ZRP says Sky News video was actually shot in July 2016

THE Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Charity Charamba has dismissed as fake the trending video published by British publication Sky News showing a uniformed soldier and a police officer taking turns to beat a handcuffed man in Harare.

Charamba said the police tracked the registration plate of the commuter omnibus van which appeared on the video until they got to the owner who confirmed the van has long stopped operating.

She said the owner of the van also confirmed the video was actually done in July 2016 during a crackdown on touts.

But she was quick to point our the police were not condoning what happened.

A SkyNews documentary done by the broadcaster’s African correspondent John Sparks says the video was shot during the recent crackdown on violent protests in mid-January 2019.
