Chamisa shares rare photo with his mentor
Chamisa captioned it with the words: “The Mentor and the mentee.”
In June 2016, the then MDC-T president Morgan Tsvangirai took a decision to appoint two additional Vice-Presidents Chamisa and Elias Mudzuri, a decision which sparked accusations of regionalism, tribalism and phallocracy or gender bias.
This was after Chamisa had been reduced to an ordinary card-carrying member following his crashing defeat to Douglas Mwonzora for the secretary-general’s post at the party’s 2014 congress.
Critics said Tsvangirai’s decision was motivated by the veteran opposition leader’s lack of confidence in his deputy Thokozani Khupe.
Chamisa then took over the reigns of power just before the death of Tsvangirai on 14 February 2018.
He presents himself to his first party congress as president on 24 May, where he is widely believed to be the clear favourite to retain the position.
