MDC Manicaland throws Mwonzora under the bus

OPPOSITION MDC’s 5th Congress at provincial level was held over the weekend in Manicaland, and the province which was considered to be the hunting ground of secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora did not vote for him in any position, preferring that he be reduced to an ordinary card-carrying member.

The province says they prefer that Mwonzora become a card-carrying member after voting Chalton Hwende for Secretary-General.

In a dramatic turn of events, Mwonzora had appeared before the crowds with party leader Nelson Chamisa, saying he had resolved to not challenge Chamisa but to retain his current position.

But the voting structures had other thoughts. They proceeded to not vote for him even for the post he told them he would prefer.
