MDC defeats Zanu-PF to retain Kadoma ward 2 seat
MDC Alliance has retained the Kadoma Ward 2 council seat in a by-election held on Saturday, June 8, 2019.
The seat has been held by the MDC since 2000.
The seat fell vacant after MDC Alliance Councillor Michael Gore was jailed five months ago for inciting public violence during the January fuel protests which became violent.
Local elections watchdog the Zimbabwe Elections Support Network (ZESN) reported a high turnout in the by-election.
“There has been a higher turn-out of youths in the Kadoma Central Ward 2 by-election with 60% having cast their vote by midday at polling station 1A, at Rimuka High School,” said ZESN in a statement.
“Polling stations opened on time and set procedures were duly followed. essential voting materials were available at the polling stations. The political environment has been serene without any observed incident of malpractice.” — ZOOMZimbabwe
