MDC Alliance has retained the Kadoma Ward 2 council seat in a by-election held on Saturday, June 8, 2019.

The MDC Alliance candidate Svorai Chiwara polled 780 votes, against ZANU PF’s Lloyd Nyambo who garnered 361 votes.

The seat has been held by the MDC since 2000.

The seat fell vacant after MDC Alliance Councillor Michael Gore was jailed five months ago for inciting public violence during the January fuel protests which became violent.

Local elections watchdog the Zimbabwe Elections Support Network (ZESN) reported a high turnout in the by-election.
