WATCH | Horrific poaching leaves rhino groaning in pool of blood
A poaching syndicate is terrorising Zimbabwe’s rhinos and dehorning them mercilessly, leaving the animals in gruesome pain and barely able to continue grazing.
In the incident whose video we share below, the poachers left the rhino hornless and groaning in a pool of blood.
The poaching syndicate is believed to be working with Chinese nationals based in the country to illegally transport the rhino horns to a growing market in the Middle East and Asia.
Zimbabwe is home to the world’s fourth largest black rhino population after South Africa, Namibia and Kenya.
Organized gangs of poachers slaughtered nearly one-quarter of the country’s rhinos between 2007 and 2009, as once again southern African nations faced an upsurge in poaching activity.
However, the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) says illegal killing of key wildlife species such as elephants and rhinos has been on the decline between 2015 and 2016.
