VIDEO: Trezeguet goal as Egypt win 1 — 0 over Zimbabwe
Egypt’s Mahmoud Ahmed Ibrahim Hassan, popularly known as Trezeguet scored the first goal of the Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as the Pharaohs dispatched the brave Warriors of Zimbabwe at the Cairo International Stadium on Friday evening with a 1-0 victory.
The host nation started off the continental showpiece with a deserved win as they dominated their Zimbabwean counterpart on the opening day of the tournament.
Having made their intention clear from the start of the first half, the Pharaohs had to wait until the 41stminute before finding the back of the net.
Pacey attacker Trezeguet combined beautifully with right-back Ayman Ashraf to create space for himself in the opposition’s 18-yard box. He then went past his marker before firing a sumptuous shot into the back of the net.
The historic goal went on to be the decider between the two sides as Egypt bagged all three points to send them top of Group A.
The other Group A match between DR. Congo and Uganda will be played tomorrow at the same venue at 14:30GMT.
