We’ll bounce back against Uganda & DR Congo: Warriors
Zimbabwe’s Warriors have expressed disappointment at losing their AFCON 2019 opener to hosts, Egypt last night, but have not lost hope.
The Warriors put a spirited performance but eventually lost narrowly (1-nil) to the Pharaohs at the Cairo International Stadium.
The team told the ZBC News this morning that their focus is to bounce back in their next match against Uganda for Zimbabwe to entertain any hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the tournament for the first time in their history.
“Yes we are disappointed with that defeat to Egypt. As we move on, we are hopeful that we will bounce back in our next game against Uganda,” said midfielder, Marvelous Nakamba.
“We don’t lose HOPE, we LEARN and MOVE 4ward…. #InGodWeTrust,” forward Khama Billiat tweeted.
Coach Sunday Chidzambwa said the Warriors lacked creativity in the attacking third, something the team will be looking to rectify in their next group matches.
Captain Knowledge Musona believes the day spent away from training may have had an impact on the Warriors overall performance.
The Warriors play Uganda in their next Group A match on Wednesday before clashing with DRC on Sunday.
Two top teams from each group qualify for the knock-out stages of the expanded African football showpiece, with four other best 3rd placed teams completing the last round of 16 line-up.
